アンティークモノグラムについて・・・。
In the 19th and the beginning 20th century embroidered monograms
were used to mark all kinds of linen.
They were a major export prodct of Switzerland in the first half of the 20th century.
The embroidery industry served as the most important opportunity for
employment in some of the (formerly) poorer regions of Switzerland.
The medallions shown here are examples of the once mighty production
in the small Swiss canton (state) Appenzell-Ausserrhoden near St.Gallen.
They were produced by Swiss women in a small factory in the village
Speicher in the period 1890-1920. The production of embroideries
was halted in the 1920ies, when embroideries went out-of-fashion.
The factory itself survived the Great Depression of the 30ies,
even the second World War, but it couldn't stand the strong competition of newly
built large factories and was closed in the 1950ies.
